The Global Bangladeshi Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) has officially launched in New York with a mission to strengthen commercial connections among Bangladeshi-origin business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors and professionals around the world and create new opportunities for global trade and investment.

The organization formally began operations Friday, Sept. 25, with an inaugural event and “Meet the Press” program at the New York Marriott Marquis. Business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, professionals, community leaders, trade representatives, journalists and members of the Bangladeshi business community attended the event.

GBCC co-founders Kazi M. Ahmed, Sheikh Galib Rahman and Redwan Chowdhury outlined the organization’s mission and plans for building a global platform for Bangladeshi-origin businesses.

The founders said the chamber was established to give a more structured platform to the international business connections already developing among Bangladeshi-origin entrepreneurs and business leaders in the United States, Bangladesh and other countries.

GBCC plans to focus on international trade and investment, entrepreneurship and business development, cross-border partnerships, investment and market access, professional networking, business leadership and education, and international business development.

The organization also plans to promote strategic partnerships between Bangladeshi-origin businesses and business communities in international markets. Its planned global network includes entrepreneurs and business leaders in the United States, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Italy, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Kazi M. Ahmed, a co-founder of GBCC, said there is a need for a practical platform where businesses can find partners beyond geographic boundaries, exchange knowledge and explore new commercial opportunities.

Co-founder Sheikh Galib Rahman said connecting business communities across countries and creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs and emerging business leaders are among GBCC’s key objectives.

Redwan Chowdhury, another co-founder, said GBCC would seek to go beyond networking by helping turn business relationships into tangible commercial and economic opportunities.

He said the global Bangladeshi business community is diverse and increasingly connected to international markets. GBCC aims to build bridges among markets, people and opportunities to expand possibilities for trade, investment, entrepreneurship and economic growth.

During the “Meet the Press” session, journalists and media representatives engaged directly with the GBCC founders and discussed the organization’s plans for business development, international trade, investment, entrepreneurship, membership and global engagement.

Organizers said GBCC will seek to provide Bangladeshi-origin businesses and entrepreneurs worldwide with access to business information, networking opportunities, partnerships and international markets. The chamber plans to pursue these goals through business forums, networking programs, educational initiatives, strategic partnerships and international engagements.
