White House Releases List of Products Eligible for Potential US-China Tariff Cuts

The White House has released lists of products that could receive lower tariffs under a new trade arrangement between the United States and China, covering about $30 billion worth of goods in each direction.

The lists were released Sunday following a summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday. The two leaders discussed trade and other issues during their meeting.

Under the arrangement, Washington and Beijing will review the product lists with the aim of providing reduced tariff treatment to eligible goods on a reciprocal basis. The White House did not specify the tariff rates or when the reductions would take effect.

The US list includes 77 categories of Chinese products, including fireworks, Christmas ornaments, household goods and sports equipment.

China’s list covers more than 1,600 categories of US products, including beef, pork, poultry, seafood, grains, dairy products, whiskey, coal and timber.

The White House said the agreement provides recommendations for more favorable tariff treatment for the listed “non-sensitive goods.” Beijing confirmed the arrangement on Saturday.

China has also agreed to import at least 10 million metric tons of US coal in 2027 and 2028, according to the White House.

The latest arrangement follows a trade truce reached by Trump and Xi last year in South Korea after a series of retaliatory tariff increases pushed duties above 100 percent on some goods.

The truce was originally scheduled to expire in November but has been extended until Jan. 10, according to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
