Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Climbs to 1,430
The death toll from two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela earlier this week has risen to 1,430, according to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said on Saturday that at least 3,238 people were injured in the twin earthquakes, which measured 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude and hit the country on Wednesday. The previous official death toll stood at 920.
Authorities also reported that thousands of residents have been displaced, with many left homeless as rescue and recovery operations continue in the affected areas.
The powerful tremors caused widespread destruction to buildings and infrastructure, prompting emergency response efforts across several regions of the country. Rescue teams and volunteers remain engaged in search-and-recovery operations amid the devastation.
