Bangladeshi-Owned Kalam’s Bazar Opens New Supershop in Brooklyn

Bangladeshi-owned grocery chain Kalam’s Bazar has opened a new supershop in Brooklyn, expanding its presence in New York’s Bangladeshi-American community.

The new location at 69 Church Avenue was inaugurated Friday in a festive ceremony attended by New York City Council Member Shahana Hanif, business leaders, Bangladeshi community leaders, representatives of social organizations and local residents.

The opening also drew customers from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Speaking at the event, Council Member Shahana Hanif encouraged members of the diaspora to support businesses owned by members of the Bangladeshi community.

The new supershop offers a wide range of grocery products, including fresh vegetables, fruits, spices, rice, lentils, cooking oil, dairy products and eggs. It also features halal and fresh beef, goat, duck and chicken, along with fresh and frozen fish, including varieties popular among Bangladeshi customers.

Customers at the opening praised the store’s product selection, particularly its fish and halal meat sections. They said having Bangladeshi and international products available under one roof would make grocery shopping more convenient for immigrant families.

Kalam’s Bazar also offers traditional foods such as singara, samosa and paratha, as well as a variety of frozen food products. The management said the selection was designed to meet the needs of Bangladeshi-Americans as well as customers from other communities.

The store is offering special opening promotions and online ordering services. A large parking area is also available for customers.

Kalam’s Bazar previously opened its first location on Liberty Avenue in Ozone Park. The new Church Avenue location is the company’s second branch.
