US Embassy Issues Fresh Guidance for Bangladeshis Applying for Medical Visas
The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka has issued updated guidance for Bangladeshi citizens applying for B-2 visitor visas for medical treatment in the United States, emphasizing the need to demonstrate both medical necessity and financial capability.
In a notice posted Saturday on its verified Facebook page, the embassy said applicants seeking a B-2 medical visa must provide evidence that they can fully cover the costs of their treatment, travel, and living expenses during their stay in the United States.
The embassy said consular officers evaluate each application individually to ensure that an applicant’s planned medical treatment or stay will not create a financial burden on U.S. taxpayers.
As part of the application process, applicants must submit a recommendation from a physician in Bangladesh explaining their medical condition and why treatment in the United States is necessary.
Applicants must also obtain a letter from a U.S. physician or hospital confirming its willingness to provide treatment. The letter should include the expected duration of treatment and an estimate of the total medical costs.
In addition, applicants are required to provide proof of sufficient financial resources to pay for medical care, transportation to and from the United States, and all living expenses during their stay.
The embassy’s latest advisory reiterates that meeting documentation requirements does not automatically guarantee visa approval, as each application is assessed on its own merits under U.S. immigration law.
