Rehana Ferdousi: Skywatchers are in for a rare cosmic treat on the night of July 28. In a stunning astronomical alignment, the bright nearly full Moon, close approach of Mars, and the peak of the Delta Aquarids meteor shower will all be visible together—no telescope required.

Moon and Mars: A Close Encounter
Just after sunset, the Moon and Mars will appear very close to each other in the western sky. Though millions of miles apart in reality, they will align visually from Earth’s perspective.
Mars will be visible as a bright reddish dot beside the waxing gibbous Moon. This rare pairing creates a spectacular scene that happens only a few times a year. Adding to the charm, the Moon will also display Earthshine—a faint glow on its dark side caused by sunlight reflected from Earth, giving it a mysterious beauty.

Meteor Shower at Its Best
Coinciding with this planetary show is the Delta Aquarids meteor shower, expected to peak on the night of July 28 into the early hours of July 29. Under clear skies, viewers could see up to 20 meteors per hour.
While the meteor shower’s official peak falls in mid-August, the bright light of the Sturgeon Moon then will make viewing difficult. So July 28 offers the best visibility before full moonlight interferes.

Other Meteors to Watch
Piscis Austrinids: Also active on July 28, with up to 5 meteors per hour.

Alpha Capricornids: Peaks on July 30, known for bright, slow-moving meteors, also about 5 per hour.

What to Look for on July 28

Tips for Meteor Viewing
Choose a clear, dark sky—avoid cloudy or rainy conditions.

No equipment needed—meteors are best seen with the naked eye.

Use a tripod and long exposure if you wish to photograph the event.

Where to Watch From?
This celestial show will be visible from Bangladesh and around the world, as long as the skies are clear. Just face the western horizon after sunset and prepare to witness an unforgettable night.

The universe is about to gift you a magical evening—don’t miss it.
