Heavy Snowfall Expected in New York City and Buffalo This Winter

6 October, 2025, 8:15 am

This winter, New York City and Buffalo are expected to experience unusually heavy snowfall, according to weather forecasters. AccuWeather predicts that New York City could see 17 to 21 inches of snow in December, surpassing last year’s maximum snowfall of less than 13 inches.

Meanwhile, Buffalo, New York’s second-largest city, could face even more severe conditions, with snowfall expected to reach 90 to 100 inches. The city’s “lake-effect” snow, caused by cold winds passing over the Great Lakes, may contribute to the heavy accumulation, disrupting daily life and transportation.

Weather experts warn that the combination of storms from western Canada and the Midwest may increase snowfall levels further. February could see lower temperatures, leading to a mix of snow and freezing rain in some areas.

Authorities are advising residents to prepare for the winter season by stocking warm clothing, snow removal equipment, and emergency supplies. Drivers are also urged to exercise caution and monitor weather forecasts closely.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said, “This winter could bring some of the heaviest snowfalls in recent years. Both New York City and Buffalo residents should take precautionary measures to stay safe and minimize disruptions.”
