Former New York Jets Center Nick Mangold Dies at 41
Nick Mangold, legendary center for the New York Jets, has passed away at the age of 41 due to complications from kidney disease. The team confirmed his death occurred on October 25.
Mangold, a first-round draft pick in 2006, played 11 seasons with the Jets, appearing in 164 games and earning seven Pro Bowl selections. He was celebrated for his durability, including a streak of 89 consecutive games, and was inducted into the Jets’ Ring of Honor in 2022.
Earlier this month, Mangold publicly shared his struggle with a genetic kidney disorder that had progressed to end-stage renal disease. He was undergoing dialysis while awaiting a transplant.
Jets Chairman Woody Johnson described Mangold as the “heartbeat” of the offensive line, highlighting his leadership and impact on the franchise. Mangold is remembered not only for his dominant play but also for his courage in confronting his health challenges.
