Campaign for 13th National Election Kicks Off in Bangladesh
Bangladesh’s interim government launched the campaign for the 13th parliamentary elections on Sunday with the release of a 48-second teaser video.
The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said the campaign for the 2026 national election has officially begun. In the video, Captain (retd) Dr. Md Khan Sobayel Bin Rafiq, who coordinated the 2009 BDR mutiny investigation and represents families of enforced disappearance victims, urged citizens to participate in what he called the most significant election in the country’s history.
“Leaving behind past chapters, Bangladesh now faces the most important election in its history. This is your chance to reclaim ownership of your country,” Sobayel Bin Rafiq said in the teaser. “Election 2026—the key to the nation is in your hands. Cast your vote and decide what kind of Bangladesh you want to see.”
The campaign follows Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus’s August announcement that the 13th general election will be held before the start of Ramadan next year. Following this declaration, the Chief Adviser’s Office instructed the Election Commission to begin preparations for the vote.
The Chief Election Commissioner has stated that the official election schedule is expected to be released around two months before polling day, likely in the first half of December.
