Authorities in the United States have issued a warning over rising ticket fraud, fake travel offers, and online scams targeting fans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Consumer Protection Division of the New York State Department of State said that major sporting events often attract organized scam networks that exploit public excitement. These groups typically use fake ticket sales, phishing links, fraudulent giveaways, counterfeit merchandise, and deceptive streaming websites to steal money from unsuspecting consumers.

New York State Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley said that global events such as the World Cup draw scammers from around the world who attempt to profit from eager fans, urging the public to remain vigilant.

Authorities have advised spectators not to purchase tickets or travel packages from unfamiliar or unverified platforms and to exercise caution when making online transactions.

They also emphasized that the risk of fraud is particularly high through digital payments and fake websites, urging fans to rely only on trusted and official sources when buying tickets or accessing event-related services.
