New York Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani has emerged as the clear front-runner in the upcoming New York City mayoral election, according to a new poll conducted by Zenith Research and Public Progress Solutions. The survey shows Mamdani receiving 50% of voter support—more than the combined support of all other major candidates in the race.

The poll placed former Governor Andrew Cuomo in second place with 22% support, followed by conservative activist Curtis Sliwa with 13%, incumbent Mayor Eric Adams with 7%, and former federal prosecutor Jim Walden with just 1%. Another 6% of respondents were undecided or chose another candidate.

The survey, conducted between July 16 and July 24, included 1,453 registered NYC voters from all five boroughs. The margin of error is 2.9% for registered voters and 3.9% for likely voters.

Mamdani is also the only candidate a majority of voters said they would consider voting for (58%), while 60% rejected Cuomo, 68% rejected Adams, 59% rejected Sliwa, and 40% rejected Walden—half of whom said they didn’t know enough about him.

In hypothetical matchups, Mamdani’s numbers only increase. Without Cuomo in the race, Mamdani’s support jumps to 55%. In a four-way contest without Adams, Mamdani polls at 51%.

Top concerns among voters include the rising cost of housing, groceries, utilities, and crime/public safety. Analysts suggest Mamdani’s progressive stance on these key issues is fueling his lead.

Amit Singh Bagga, founder of Public Progress Solutions, stated, “This is the first multilingual, multi-identity poll of this cycle—and it makes one thing clear: Black union households, young Jews, South Asians, East Asians, Latinos, and New Yorkers across all income levels are on the Zohran Mamdani bus.”

She added, “Forget the DNC’s post-mortem—these results are the blueprint for the future.”
