Mayor Mamdani Rides Q70 Bus, Pushes for Free Citywide Service

Mayor Zohran Mamdani took to the Q70 bus on Sunday night to talk directly with riders about his plan to expand free bus service across New York City.

Currently, the Q70 is the city’s only free bus route, connecting passengers to and from LaGuardia Airport. Mamdani emphasized that if free service can work on the Q70, it can be implemented throughout the city.

“Every New Yorker deserves access to reliable, affordable transportation. This bus proves that it’s possible—it’s just a matter of scaling it up,” Mamdani said during his ride.

The mayor’s push has received support from Governor Kathy Hochul and MTA Chair Janno Lieber, who back expanding the Fair Fares discount program to more riders.

In addition to transportation, Mamdani signed an executive order calling for “Renter Ripoff” hearings, where tenants can publicly address landlord issues. He also appointed Dina Levy as the city’s new housing commissioner.
