Rideshare Driver Fatally Shot in Bronx, NYC’s First Homicide of 2026
Bronx, NYC: A rideshare driver was found dead from gunshot wounds to the head inside his vehicle along Morris Avenue in the Mount Hope area, marking New York City’s first reported homicide of 2026.
The victim, identified as 55-year-old Issa Isac, an African immigrant, was discovered in his blue Toyota RAV4 just before 7 a.m. while firefighters were responding to a car fire.
Officials believe the shooting followed a minor traffic incident. Surveillance footage shows Isac reversing his car when two men approached, leading to a confrontation. Investigators say shots were fired through the vehicle, striking Isac in the head.
“This appears to have started as a small dispute, but it tragically escalated,” said Fernando Mateo of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers. “He was just finishing a long overnight shift and was likely on his way home when this happened.”
Isac’s family, many of whom are also livery drivers, gathered at the NYS Federation of Taxi Drivers headquarters to mourn the loss. He had been driving for Uber for five years, having sold his medallion to purchase a home.
Authorities continue to search for the suspects, and a $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to their arrest.
Police urge anyone with information to contact the Bronx precinct.
