72-year-old man pushed onto New York subway tracks, 40-year-old suspect arrested
A 72-year-old man was allegedly pushed from behind onto the subway tracks at Rockefeller Center station in Midtown Manhattan early Wednesday morning. Police arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with the incident.
According to police, the elderly man was standing on the northbound platform at Rockefeller Center shortly before 4 a.m. The platform serves the F and D subway lines.
The man fell onto the tracks after being pushed but managed to climb back onto the platform on his own. He was later taken to a hospital, where doctors said his condition was stable.
Police said the victim and the suspect were not previously known to each other and there was no apparent dispute between them. Investigators believe the attack may have been unprovoked.
The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Francisco Garcia. He was arrested at Rockefeller Center station and charged with assault and reckless endangerment.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are reviewing witness accounts and surveillance footage from the station.
