New York to Host 40th FOBANA Convention from September 4, Dedicated to Bangabandhu
The 40th annual Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America (FOBANA) convention is set to begin in New York on September 4, running for three days until September 6.
For the first time, the convention is being dedicated to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Organizers say the initiative aims to highlight his legacy along with Bangladeshi culture and the contributions of the diaspora community.
Ahead of the event, a well-wisher gathering was held on Friday (May 1) at AR Banquet Hall in Jackson Heights, New York. The event was organized by the NRB Association USA, where discussions took place regarding the formation of a full host committee.
Representatives from various Bangladeshi social, cultural, literary, human rights, and professional organizations attended the meeting. Writers, journalists, educators, artists, and cultural activists were also present.
FOBANA Central Committee Chairman Zakaria Chowdhury, Executive Secretary Dewan Moniruzzaman, Host Committee Convener Nurul Amin Babu, and Member Secretary Manzur Kader urged the community to actively support the successful organization of the convention. FOBANA chief patron Shafiqul Alam and others were also present.
Organizers said this year’s convention will feature cultural performances, discussions, and community gatherings focusing on Bangladeshi heritage, the ideals of Bangabandhu, and the role of expatriate Bangladeshis abroad.
