For the first time during his visit to the U.S., Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, was honored in Buffalo and Michigan after arriving in New York. On October 24, he met with the Bangladeshi diaspora in Buffalo at Alexander Avenue, and on October 25, he held a public reception in Hamtramck, Michigan.

In Michigan, he emphasized that strengthening the country’s education system would be his top priority if Jamaat-e-Islami came to power. He stated, “Education is the backbone of a nation; without it, a nation cannot stand tall.” He also highlighted class inequalities in the country, pointing out how the rulers have historically oppressed ordinary people.

During the Buffalo reception, Dr. Rahman announced parliamentary representation for expatriates. He said, “The percentage of Bangladeshis living abroad will be proportionally represented in parliament. Wherever they are in the world, they will feel, ‘I am Bangladesh, we are Bangladesh.’ We aim to unite 360 million hands of 180 million people globally.”

He further added that the nation should maintain dignity and respect internationally while recognizing that the only supreme authority is Allah. Regarding the economy, he stressed that sincerity, honesty, and hard work are the keys to reviving the country and overcoming past mismanagement.
