Canada Journal Publication Ceremony to Be Held in Toronto on May 1
A literary publication event organized by the Canada-based literary platform Canada Journal (c-j.ca) will take place on Friday, May 1, at St. Paul’s United Church in Scarborough, Toronto (200 McIntosh St, Scarborough, ON M1N 3Z3).
The event will bring together writers, poets, cultural figures, and community leaders from both the Bangladeshi and international literary communities.
Organizers said prominent Bangladeshi cultural personality Dr. Ikhtiar Omar will attend as the chief guest, while entrepreneur Gora Aditya will join as a special guest. The program is also expected to feature participation from Toronto’s four Poet Laureates—George Elliott Clarke, Anne Michaels, A.F. Moritz, and Lillian Allen—along with a large number of Bangladeshi and non-Bangladeshi writers.
During the event, three new publications will be officially launched. These include “Canada-te Ekattor Bangalir Ovinoy” edited by researcher and writer Subrata Kumar Das, the literary magazine “Sahitya Ekhon” edited by poet Shyamshree Roy Karmakar from Kolkata, and the Canada-focused special issue of “Poetry Out Loud” edited by poet Uday Shankar Durjoy from London.
Elected officials from Toronto are also expected to attend, including MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith (Beaches—East York), City Councillor Parthi Kandavel (Scarborough Southwest), and Councillor Brad Bradford (Beaches—East York).
The organizers highlighted that several community professionals and advisors, including Barrister Surya Chakraborty, immigration consultant Monish Pal, and mortgage agent Bazlur Maruf, are supporting the event. Media partners include Saptahik Banglamail and NRB Television.
The event is expected to serve as a cultural gathering celebrating diaspora literature, historical reflection, and cross-cultural literary collaboration among Bangladeshi and international writers in Canada.
