Bangladesh Society of USA Holds Joint Meeting in New York
A joint meeting of the Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, and Election Commission of the Bangladesh Society of USA Inc., one of the leading organizations representing the Bangladeshi diaspora in the United States, was held in New York on May 3.
The meeting took place Sunday afternoon at the organization’s headquarters and was chaired by Board of Trustees Chairman Shah Newaz. It was jointly conducted by Society President Ataur Rahman Selim and General Secretary Mohammad Ali.
Among the Executive Committee members present were Senior Vice President Mohiuddin Dewan, Vice President Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Joint General Secretary Abul Kalam Bhuiyan, Treasurer Mofizul Islam Bhuiyan (Rumi), Organizing Secretary Duke Khan, Cultural Secretary Anik Raj, Public Relations and Media Secretary Rizu Mohammad, Literary Secretary Mohammad Akhtar Babul, Sports and Hospitality Secretary Ashraf Ali Khan Liton, School and Education Secretary Mohammad Hasan (Jilani), and Executive Members Harunur Rashid, Jahangir Shahid Sohrawardy, Mohammad Siddique Patwari, Abul Kashem Chowdhury, Monsur Ahmad, and Hasan Khan.
Trustee Board members present included Kazi Azharul Haque Milon, Azimur Rahman Borhan, Abdur Rahim Hawlader, Dr. Enamul Haque, Junaid Chowdhury, Kazi Sakhawat Hossain Azam, Fakhrul Islam Delowar, Ahsan Habib, and Naeem Tutul.
Members of the Election Commission attending the meeting included Chief Election Commissioner Abu Naser and commissioners Badrul H. Khan, Mithu Hamid, and Mia Md. Dulal.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Ataur Rahman Selim formally introduced the newly formed Election Commission to the members of the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees. Appointment letters and identification cards were also handed over to the commissioners.
Speaking after the introduction session, Chief Election Commissioner Abu Naser expressed gratitude for being entrusted with the responsibility. He said the commission is committed to conducting a free, fair, neutral, and participatory election while upholding the organization’s constitution.
However, he emphasized that achieving this goal would require cooperation from all members of the community.
Other election commissioners also called for the support of the Bangladeshi diaspora to ensure a successful electoral process.
During the meeting, the chairman and members of the Board of Trustees assured the Election Commission of their full cooperation and stressed the importance of maintaining neutrality. At the same time, the organization’s president, senior vice president, general secretary, and other officials urged the commission to organize a free, fair, and credible election.
