Bangladesh Society Celebrates Golden Jubilee in New York
The Bangladesh Society in New York marked its 50th anniversary with a colorful and festive celebration in Queens. The event, held on Sunday, November 2, at Terrace on the Park from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., brought together hundreds of expatriate Bangladeshis to honor five decades of unity, culture, and community service.
The program began with opening remarks from General Secretary Mohammad Ali, followed by the national anthems of both Bangladesh and the United States. President Ataur Rahman Selim delivered the welcome address, highlighting the organization’s five-decade journey. “Over the past 50 years, Bangladesh Society has played a vital role in strengthening the bonds of unity and culture among expatriates. This milestone is a matter of pride for all of us,” Selim said, expressing gratitude to everyone for making the celebration a success.
Trustee Board Chairman and Golden Age Home Care CEO Shah Newaz announced a major achievement, revealing that the society had recently signed a contract to purchase a new building worth $4.9 million, fulfilling one of the key promises made by the current executive council. He called on community members to support the completion of the project, describing it as a proud accomplishment for Bangladeshi expatriates.
As part of the celebration, former and current leaders who have contributed to the society’s development over the past five decades were honored with special awards. Young Bangladeshi-Americans excelling in education and representing prestigious universities were also recognized for their achievements. Guests later joined in cutting the Golden Jubilee cake, symbolizing the organization’s enduring legacy.
The evening featured captivating musical performances by Rano Newaz, Anik Raj, Protikh Hasan, and Badsha Bulbul, creating a lively and nostalgic atmosphere for the Bangladeshi diaspora in New York.
Founded on November 23, 1975, Bangladesh Society, Inc. has long served as a pillar of unity, cultural promotion, and community welfare for Bangladeshi immigrants in the United States. Today, it stands as one of the largest Bangladeshi social organizations in New York, continuing its mission to uphold the country’s positive image abroad and foster strong community ties.
