GVBCVA Holds Career and Settlement Workshop to Support Newcomers in Canada
The Greater Vancouver Bangladesh Cultural Association (GVBCA) organized a Career and Settlement Workshop 2026 in Vancouver to help newcomers, international students and job seekers navigate professional and personal challenges in Canada.
The workshop was held on October 11 at the Sub Ballroom of Simon Fraser University, running from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. It aimed to provide practical guidance on starting a professional career, finding quality housing and overcoming challenges associated with a lack of Canadian work experience.
Led by GVBCA President Mahmudul Haque Liton and General Secretary Md. Abid Hossain, the program covered resume and cover letter preparation, career development, job-search strategies, immigration, housing, mental health and healthcare services.
Experts, human resources representatives and career counselors from BC Public Service, Fraser Health Authority, the University of British Columbia, South Vancouver Neighbourhood House, Options Community Services and the corporate and technology sectors attended the event and shared their insights.
The workshop featured interactive question-and-answer sessions and presentations offering participants a better understanding of the local job market. Several local organizations, including a Bangla school, also set up booths to provide information and opportunities for direct engagement.
In a special segment, students who completed Grade 12 and graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2026 received recognition for their academic achievements.
Organizers said GVBCA plans to continue arranging informative programs to promote the well-being and social inclusion of newcomers to Canada.
