7 Killed, 38 Injured in 24 Shootings Over 3 Days in Chicago

At least 24 separate shootings occurred across Chicago, the largest city in the US state of Illinois, between Friday afternoon, June 19, and Sunday afternoon, June 21. The wave of gun violence left seven people dead and 38 others injured, according to police data.

The series of incidents has triggered widespread concern, with US President Donald Trump commenting on the situation on social media. In a post on Truth Social, Trump questioned Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s response to the crisis.

“I don’t understand why Governor Pritzker is not asking for my help,” Trump wrote. “I could make Chicago safe in one month and turn it into the safest city within a year.”

However, Governor Pritzker, a senior Democratic Party leader, has not yet responded to Trump’s remarks.

According to Chicago Police Department data, three people were killed on the first day of violence—Friday—while two more deaths occurred over the following weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

The violence began on June 19, which coincided with Juneteenth, a US federal holiday marking the end of slavery in 1865. The day is widely observed across the country as a significant historical commemoration.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and those injured. He also pledged that authorities would bring those responsible to justice.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether the shootings are connected or part of coordinated attacks.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence in major US cities, where periodic spikes in shootings continue to draw political debate over public safety and law enforcement strategies.
