New York City is set to bring the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup directly to residents with the announcement of free fan zones in each of the city’s five boroughs, offering live match screenings, cultural events, and community activities throughout the tournament.
The initiative was unveiled on Monday by Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New York Governor Kathy Hochul, aiming to make the global sporting event more accessible to all New Yorkers while celebrating the city’s diversity and love for football.
Mayor Mamdani said the fan zones are designed to recreate the shared excitement of stadium atmospheres. “We’re making sure everyone can be part of that joy,” he said, highlighting how fan zones can create lasting memories beyond the stadium experience.
Governor Hochul emphasized the broader impact of the initiative, noting that it will bring communities together and support local businesses across the city.

The official fan events will be hosted in key locations across all five boroughs:
- Queens: USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Flushing Meadows
June 11–27 | Daily match screenings and programming - Manhattan: Rockefeller Center
July 6–19 | Extended programming during finals week - The Bronx: Bronx Terminal Market
June 13–14 | Matchday and cultural events - Brooklyn: Brooklyn Bridge Park
June 13–July 19 | Daily screenings and activities - Staten Island: Staten Island University Hospital Community Park

Together, these locations will host one of the largest free public World Cup viewing experiences in the United States.
Organizers say the fan zones will also feature cultural performances, food vendors, and interactive activities, turning the tournament into a citywide celebration.
