The Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tarique Rahman arrived in Tangail on Tuesday morning to inaugurate the ‘Farmer Card’ distribution programme, a government initiative aimed at supporting farmers.

His motorcade reached the district at around 11:00am on 14 April, having departed from his residence in Gulshan, Dhaka, at approximately 9:30am.

The Prime Minister will formally hand over the ‘Farmer Card’ to farmers belonging to the Suruj area of Sadar Upazila at a launching ceremony held at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Tangail and subsequently address the farmers’ rally.

According to government officials, the card is designed to facilitate the efficient delivery of incentives, subsidies and other forms of state assistance to farmers.

Authorities said the introduction of the ‘Farmer Card’ marks progress in fulfilling a key electoral pledge of the current government. They noted that earlier initiatives, including the ‘Family Card’, ‘Sports Card’ and canal excavation programmes, have already had a positive impact across various social and economic sectors.
