The Bangladeshi diaspora in New York’s Brooklyn celebrated their vibrant cultural heritage at “Pothamela,” organized by World Bangla Music, held at Ozone Park on Sunday. The festival ran from morning to evening, filling the park with festive energy.

The fair featured stalls offering traditional Bangladeshi food, clothing, and various other products. Women entrepreneurs also showcased their own creations. Thousands of expatriate families attended, shopped, and enjoyed cultural performances throughout the day.

The event was inaugurated by Shahabuddin Ahmed. Attorney Moin Chowdhury attended as the chief guest, while Zakir H. Chowdhury, Moinuddin, and Majeda Uddin were special guests. The festival was led by World Bangla Music president M.N. Jaman Laltu.

The program committee included Khairul Islam Khokon, Liton Chowdhury, Golam Mostafa, Matabur Rahman, Kabir Uddin, Helalur Rahman, and M.D. Tuhin. Sayed Azad, chairman of the organization, was also present.

Local Bangladeshi artists performed throughout the day, entertaining attendees with music and cultural presentations. Various businesses sponsored the fair, and media partner “Saptahik Thikana” provided coverage.

Attorney Moin Chowdhury said, “Even in America, expatriates are keeping Bangladesh’s culture alive. Festivals like this help pass our traditions to the younger generation.”

Organizer M.N. Jaman Laltu added, “For generations, we have been holding this festival abroad. It is not just a celebration—it is a symbol of our brotherhood and unity.”
