A new Bangladeshi-owned supermarket has opened in Ozone Park, New York, drawing attention from both the expatriate community and local residents.
‘Kalam’s Bazar’, located on Liberty Avenue, was inaugurated on Friday afternoon in a festive ceremony attended by business leaders, community representatives, and local dignitaries. Alongside Bangladeshi expatriates, people from other backgrounds also joined the event.
To mark the launch, organisers held a two-day free food festival, which drew large crowds. Shoppers spending more than $100 were also entered into a prize draw worth over $20,000.
Kalam’s Bazar offers a wide range of daily essentials—fresh vegetables, fruits, spices, rice, lentils, and Bangladeshi food products. To meet the needs of Muslim expatriates, the shop provides fresh halal meat, including beef, goat, duck, and chicken. The store also features a variety of Bangladeshi freshwater fish species.
According to the management, the product lineup has been arranged not just for Bangladeshi Americans but also to serve the needs of a multinational customer base. With a modern touch, the store offers an online ordering service, ensuring home delivery of essentials. It also provides large-scale parking facilities, allowing customers to shop smoothly and hassle-free.
Participants at the opening ceremony said that Kalam’s Bazar will add a new dimension to meeting the daily shopping needs of Bangladeshi expatriates in New York. Many expressed excitement at finding a variety of Bangladeshi goods under one roof. They believe that in a short time, Kalam’s Bazar will become a trusted name not only for Bangladeshi expatriates but also for other communities.
