11 killed in separate gun attacks in Cape Town

At least 11 people were killed in three separate shooting incidents in Cape Town, South Africa, police said on Sunday.
The attacks took place in the townships of Khayelitsha, Langa and Gugulethu, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS). Investigations are underway.
In Khayelitsha’s Lingelethu West area, three men aged 25, 31 and 35 were shot dead. In a separate attack on Winnie Mandela Street in Langa’s Kwalanga area, four men and a woman were killed.
In the third incident, at an informal settlement in Gugulethu’s Barcelona area, two men and a woman were killed and two others were injured.
Additional police have been deployed at the crime scenes and other high-risk areas.
Western Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Siphokazi Dlaty told reporters that the motives behind the shootings had not yet been established. She urged anyone with relevant information to contact police.
A reward of R100,000 (around $6,185) has been announced for information leading to the arrest of the attackers.
Police said gang violence and illegal firearms remain major security challenges in the province.
