New York City mayoral candidate Zohraan Mamdani met with the executive board of the Richmond County Democratic Party at Mariners Harbor on 23 August, ahead of the 2025 elections.

The party’s chair, Laura Sward, highlighted the importance of unity following the primary elections and urged members to work together to secure Democratic victories across New York and nationwide. Staten Island party leaders discussed key local issues, including transportation, housing, public health, and environmental concerns.

The Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) welcomed Mamdani and his team, noting that the organization had supported him when his backing among Democrats was under 1%. ASAAL pledged continued support, announcing an information-driven campaign targeting Staten Island’s northern and western neighborhoods and committing 2–4 volunteers each weekend until election day.

Mohammad Karim Chowdhury, ASAAL’s national secretary and an influential member of Richmond County’s executive board, said, ASAAL will focus on ensuring Mamdani is elected mayor before addressing the city’s growing public issues. Once elected, we will provide guidance to address community priorities step by step. Our attention is fully on overcoming upcoming electoral challenges and securing victory.

Mamdani expressed gratitude to Staten Island Democrats, ASAAL, and other grassroots organizations for their campaign support. He pledged to personally engage with Staten Island voters and respond to their concerns as part of his citywide mayoral campaign.
