Zakat Foundation of America Honors Volunteers in New York

Zakat Foundation of America recently honored volunteers in New York for their dedication to humanitarian work. The ceremony was held on Sunday at the Upstairs Meeting Room of the Merrick Golf Course, where participants praised the volunteers for their commitment, time, and effort, and encouraged continued engagement in social welfare initiatives.

Founded by Halil Demirer, the Zakat Foundation of America is a U.S.-based humanitarian and development organization. It utilizes funds collected through donations, zakat, and sadaqa from the Muslim community to support humanitarian aid and sustainable development projects worldwide. The organization works regardless of religion, race, or ethnicity, focusing solely on the welfare of humanity.

The foundation’s activities include providing aid to victims of natural disasters, war, and refugee crises, and implementing programs in countries such as Gaza, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, and Afghanistan, supplying food, shelter, medical supplies, and rehabilitation support. In 2025, the organization played a critical role in Gaza by providing emergency medical aid, water, food, and medicine amid the humanitarian crisis.

The foundation has also made significant contributions in education. Through building schools, distributing educational materials, providing tuition support, and offering vocational training programs, the Zakat Foundation enables underprivileged children to access education. Sponsorship programs for orphans and vulnerable children ensure their access to education, healthcare, and overall development.
