Vigils Held in Brooklyn After Shooting Death of 7-Month-Old Child
Community members and local religious leaders gathered on Saturday to hold vigils in memory of a 7-month-old baby girl who was killed in a recent shooting in Williamsburg.
Residents assembled near the intersection of Humboldt and Moore Streets, where Kaori Patterson-Moore was fatally shot while in her stroller on Wednesday. The site has since become a makeshift memorial, filled with stuffed animals, flowers, candles, and handwritten messages expressing condolences such as “Rest in peace,” “Love to the family,” and “You will be missed.”
A separate memorial has also formed outside the Bushwick Houses building where the child’s family resides, reflecting the widespread grief felt across the neighborhood.
According to police, two suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. Authorities identified a 21-year-old man, Amuri Greene, who was arrested on Thursday and charged with murder. An 18-year-old suspect, Matthew Rodriguez, was arrested in Pennsylvania on Friday. Investigators believe Rodriguez was the individual seen driving a moped in surveillance footage linked to the shooting.
Officials stated that Rodriguez is awaiting extradition to New York, and charges against him are still pending.
Law enforcement sources indicated that the shooting may be gang-related and that the child was not the intended target.
A second vigil was held later in the day, bringing together more members of the community to mourn the loss and support the grieving family.
