UAE Pledges $1 Billion to Rebuild Yemen’s Electricity Grid

The United Arab Emirates has committed $1 billion to rebuild Yemen’s electricity infrastructure, focusing on government-controlled areas of the war-torn country. The announcement came during a high-level visit to Aden, signaling a major step in addressing Yemen’s ongoing power crisis and deepening Emirati involvement in the nation’s recovery.

UAE Ambassador Mohammed Hamad al-Zaabi revealed that the funds will be used to construct new power plants, including solar, wind, and oil-fired stations. The pledge was confirmed at an energy forum attended by Yemeni Prime Minister Salem ben Brik, who acknowledged the UAE’s “strategic support.”

Yemen’s civil war has left its infrastructure in ruins, with the electricity grid severely damaged. Millions of Yemenis face prolonged blackouts, affecting daily life and economic activity. While the UAE previously participated in the Saudi-led coalition during the conflict, this investment represents a significant post-ceasefire development aimed at rebuilding essential services.

The current UN-brokered truce, in effect since 2022, has created an opportunity for reconstruction. Restoring electricity is seen as crucial for stability, economic recovery, and the well-being of Yemen’s population.
