A U.S. military strike has set fire to an Iranian naval drone-carrying warship, causing severe damage, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Admiral Brad Cooper, spokesperson for the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), confirmed the incident on Thursday, March 5. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he stated that the U.S. attack destroyed the Iranian warship equipped to carry drones.

He described the vessel as being comparable in size to aircraft carriers used during World War II. Following the strike, the ship caught fire and sustained significant damage.

Admiral Cooper emphasized that the operation’s primary objective was to weaken Iran’s naval capabilities, and he asserted that the U.S. would not withdraw from the mission.

The strike comes amid a joint U.S.-Israeli military operation against Iran that began on February 28. U.S. officials claim that at least 30 Iranian warships have been destroyed so far in this campaign.
