U.S. Prepares for Potential Week-Long Military Operation in Iran

The United States military is reportedly preparing for a potential week-long and extensive military operation against Iran. If President Donald Trump gives the final order, the operation could escalate into one of the most severe and significant conflicts between the two nations to date, according to two unnamed U.S. officials who spoke to Reuters.

The disclosure highlights the risks and importance of ongoing diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran. U.S. special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Whitcrof are scheduled to meet Iranian representatives in Geneva on Tuesday, mediated by Oman. Secretary of State Marco Rubio cautioned that reaching an agreement may still prove very difficult, even if Trump desires a diplomatic solution.

Meanwhile, the U.S. has significantly increased its military presence in the Middle East, sending an additional aircraft carrier, thousands of troops, fighter jets, and guided-missile destroyers. These forces are equipped for both offensive strikes and defensive operations.

In a recent address to U.S. troops in North Carolina, Trump spoke about the possibility of regime change in Iran, describing it as “the best outcome possible,” though he did not specify preferred leadership. He has expressed reluctance to deploy ground troops, calling it a last resort.

The potential operation would target not only Iran’s nuclear infrastructure but also key governmental and security installations. Experts warn that the country’s extensive missile arsenal could result in a prolonged exchange of attacks, potentially sparking a major regional conflict.

Currently, U.S. military bases are stationed in Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, and Turkey. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that any attack on Iranian soil would prompt retaliatory strikes against U.S. installations across the region.
