Muslims in Bangladesh will start observing fasting from Thursday as the crescent moon was sighted in the country’s sky on Wednesday, marking the start of the holy month of 1447 Hijri.
The decision was made at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the conference room of the Islamic Foundation at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka this evening.
Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad presided over the meeting. Taraweeh prayers will begin tonight.
Muslims are meant to fast from dawn to dusk during Ramadan, a time of restraint and austerity.
