New US ambassador to arrive in Dhaka this evening
Newly appointed United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen is set to arrive in Dhaka this evening, ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections, said diplomatic sources on Monday (12 January).
The diplomatic sources said the new US ambassador will be received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by officials from the US Embassy in Dhaka and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The sources added that Christensen will formally begin his mission in Dhaka later this week by presenting copies of his credentials.
Over the next two days, he is scheduled to meet Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam and Nurul Islam, head of the Protocol Wing, to complete preparations for the ceremony.
He is expected to present his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Thursday (15 January), marking the official start of his tenure as the United States ambassador to Bangladesh.
The newly appointed US ambassador, Christensen, was sworn in at the US State Department on 9 January.
According to the US State Department, Christensen is a senior US Foreign Service officer and previously served as counselor for political and economic affairs at the US Embassy in Dhaka from 2019 to 2021.
