A new area code, 465, will soon be activated in parts of New York City as existing phone number combinations near exhaustion, according to local reports.

The new code will begin being assigned to new customers starting June 18 in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Marble Hill area of Manhattan. It will operate alongside the current area codes 347, 718, 917, and 929.

Officials say the change is being introduced because available phone numbers under the existing area codes are nearly depleted.

Authorities clarified that existing customers will not be affected, and there will be no changes to current phone numbers, call rates, or area code assignments.

Residents are advised that all local calls will require dialing 1 plus the 10-digit number, and users should ensure that automated systems and devices are updated to recognize the new 465 area code.

The new system reflects growing demand for telephone numbers in New York City as population and service usage continue to expand.
