Nepal has formally mobilized its national army to ensure security during the upcoming general elections scheduled for March 5 next year. Prime Minister Sushila Karki issued the directive after the government approved a comprehensive plan to guarantee a peaceful and credible voting process. The deployment received official endorsement from President Ramchandra Paudel following a cabinet decision that authorized military involvement in election duties across the country. Authorities said the move is aimed at creating a free, fair, and fear-free environment for voters during this politically sensitive period.

During a visit to Army Headquarters, Prime Minister Karki emphasized the military’s crucial role in maintaining stability throughout the elections. Senior army officials briefed her on the national security situation, detailing key risks, operational challenges, and their proposed deployment strategy. A presentation highlighted the army’s election-specific mobilisation model, designed to respond quickly to any emerging threats.

The Prime Minister instructed the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and the Armed Police Force to work in close coordination, drawing on lessons from past elections to guide the integrated security approach. The army is also tasked with assisting the police to prevent disruptions, safeguard polling stations, and enable voters to participate without intimidation. With the military playing a central role in the process, officials believe the strengthened security framework will help uphold the integrity of Nepal’s democratic exercise, making a stable and secure election on March 5 vital for the nation’s political future.
