A new chapter of Lions Clubs International has officially launched in New York with the establishment of the ‘New York New Horizon Club’. The inauguration took place on October 15, 2025, at Sanai Restaurant in Jackson Heights, marking a significant milestone for the Bangladeshi community in the United States.

The club was approved under the leadership of Lion Asef Bari Tutul, Governor of District 20-R2, who guided the creation of this chartered club for the first time in a decade. He emphasized that the club is a service-oriented initiative, not tied to any ethnic or social division, aimed at engaging dedicated members to expand humanitarian efforts in the local and broader community.

The founders of the club stated that it will focus on humanitarian service, leadership development, social responsibility, and promoting unity among the expatriate Bangladeshi community. Through these initiatives, they hope to enhance the community’s visibility and positive impact.

The club’s charter statement highlighted its commitment to advancing Lions Clubs International’s core mission, “We Serve,” while opening new horizons in service and leadership development. Planned programs include efforts in education, healthcare, vision care, hunger alleviation, and environmental protection, as well as expanding networks to provide support both locally and internationally.

The initial executive committee of the club was also announced. Tarek Hasan Khan was appointed President, and Md. Sohel Hossain (Ahmed Sohel) was named General Secretary. Other key positions include directors Gias Ahmed, M.M. Shaheen, Md. Khalek, and Mohammad Hossain Kamal, vice presidents Naeem Ahmed, Mohammad Jamil Hossain, and Mohammad Huda, and treasurer Mustak Chowdhury. The committee also includes chairpersons for culture and entertainment, women’s affairs, club service, and additional executive members.

Founded in 1917 in the United States, Lions Clubs International has grown into the world’s largest service organization, operating in over 200 countries and regions with more than 15,000 clubs and 1.4 million members. Guided by the motto “We Serve,” the organization has gained global recognition for its humanitarian efforts in education, healthcare, vision care, hunger relief, environmental protection, and disaster response. The launch of the New York New Horizon Club represents a new chapter in engaging the Bangladeshi community in meaningful service and leadership initiatives.
