President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The meeting, held at a city hotel, focused on strengthening bilateral relations, with discussions covering key areas such as migration, trade, commerce and people-to-people exchanges.

President Osmani expressed her appreciation to Bangladesh for its early and consistent support for Kosovo, noting that Bangladesh was among the first nations to recognize Kosovo’s independence.

She highlighted Kosovo’s strong economic recovery and progress, stating that the country has achieved the highest GDP growth in its region for the second consecutive year.

Despite the challenges of rebuilding after a genocidal war, Kosovo now stands as one of the safest countries in Europe, with robust security and adherence to the rule of law.

President Osmani acknowledged the growing contribution of Bangladeshi nationals working in Kosovo and called for greater cooperation between the two countries.

She proposed the signing of several trade and economic agreements, with particular emphasis on a bilateral partnership in the textile sector, identifying it as a high-potential area for mutual benefit.

Chief Adviser Prof Yunus welcomed the proposals and invited President Osmani to visit Bangladesh.

He also encouraged the dispatch of a Kosovan trade delegation to Dhaka to explore economic collaboration opportunities.

To enhance long-term bilateral relations, he proposed launching regular youth exchange programs between the two nations.

Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, who was also present, underscored the need to formalize worker recruitment through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

He noted that such an agreement would help ensure safe and structured migration for Bangladeshi workers.

“The Bangladeshi workers in Kosovo have spoken highly of the country’s hospitality and warmth,” he added.

Senior Secretary and SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed also attended the meeting.
