India’s top distance runners are gearing up for the 20th edition of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, set to take place this weekend in the nation’s capital. The event will feature a strong Indian elite contingent competing alongside a competitive international field.

Leading the charge is Gulveer Singh, fresh from an impressive Asian Athletics Championships performance where he won double gold in the 5000m and 10,000m. Singh narrowly missed reaching the World Championships final and is now making his debut in this high-profile half marathon. He aims to deliver a strong performance against the event’s challenging field.

In the women’s category, defending champion Lily Das returns, confident in her form and focused on retaining her title. The men’s 2023 champion, Abhishek Pal, is also back, noting that a strong Indian pack, including Singh, could push the lead group toward the one-hour mark.

The depth of talent in the race underscores the growing progress of Indian distance running. Many athletes highlighted the value of competing against top international performers, which offers critical experience ahead of global competitions.

Runner Kiran Matre said he plans to stay with the leading pack for as long as possible, aiming to learn and gain motivation from racing sub-60 minute athletes.

The 20th Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon promises exciting performances, showcasing the speed, determination, and rising ambitions of India’s finest distance runners.
