Immigration raid: five Bangladeshis arrested in the UK
British authorities have arrested five Bangladeshis in Hereford, England, during a targeted operation against illegal immigration, officials confirmed. Legal action is also being taken against the owners of the restaurants where the arrests occurred, the Home Office said.
The operation took place on 11 December at two neighbouring restaurants on St. Owen Street — Jalsagar and Taste of Raj — led by Immigration Enforcement officers.
Officials arrested one Bangladeshi man from Jalsagar on suspicion of immigration-related offences. From Taste of Raj, authorities detained four Bangladeshi men, two of whom had overstayed their visas, while the other two were arrested for breaching bail conditions. Details of the bail cases were not disclosed.
The Home Office has forwarded relevant documentation on both restaurants to the Civil Penalty Compliance team to initiate legal proceedings. These restaurants had previously faced action for employing irregular migrants.
BBC contacted the restaurant owners for comment, but they did not respond before publication.
