Illegal Immigrant Charged in Fatal Ontario Freeway Crash
Authorities have identified Jashanpreet Singh, 21, as the driver involved in a multi-vehicle crash on the westbound 10 Freeway in Ontario, California on Tuesday. The accident resulted in three deaths and injured at least four others.
Singh, who was reportedly under the influence of drugs, now faces vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence (DUI) charges. He was driving a semi-truck into slow-moving traffic and reportedly did not apply brakes, causing a chain-reaction collision. Victims have been hospitalized, and the investigation into the exact cause continues.
Immigration Status
Federal sources confirmed Singh is an Indian national who entered the U.S. illegally. He was reportedly apprehended and released at the California border in March 2022. Following the crash, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a detainer, aiming to transfer him to federal custody after his criminal case concludes.
Singh is currently held at the West Valley Detention Center, awaiting formal charges. The case has drawn heightened attention due to the combination of impaired driving and his immigration status.
Authorities and the local community continue to mourn the victims, emphasizing the severe dangers of driving under the influence.
