An award-winning Bangladeshi chef who made his name in London and New York has now brought his culinary skills to Buffalo.

Tanvir Chowdhury, a former winner of the London Curry Awards and founding chef of two popular New York restaurants, is now leading the kitchen at As-Salam Kabab.

Food lovers have been packing into the restaurant since his arrival three months ago, with weekends and holidays often fully booked.

Mr Chowdhury spent eight years as a chef in London before moving to the US, where he worked for six years in Manhattan. He helped establish “Chef Mahal” and “Mehman Restaurant”, both of which became popular among the Bangladeshi community.

In Buffalo, his menu combines Bangladeshi favourites such as kala bhuna, rupchanda fish, quail, shutki bharta and roast polao with Indian, Pakistani and Chinese dishes. Kebab dishes, prepared with his own signature touch, have also proved especially popular.

The chef has already catered at 13 picnics and community events in Buffalo. He has urged visitors travelling from other states to book tables in advance to avoid disappointment.

As-Salam Kabab has quickly developed a reputation for its food quality, service and atmosphere, with many diners calling it one of the city’s standout South Asian restaurants.

From London to New York, and now Buffalo, Mr Chowdhury has built a career defined by dedication, hard work and an ability to set new standards in the kitchens where he works.
