`Dear Maa’ Marks New Chapter for Bengali Cinema in North America

Bengali cinema is set to reach a new milestone in North America as acclaimed director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s latest film Dear Maa, starring popular actress Jaya Ahsan, is scheduled for simultaneous release across the United States and Canada on Friday, August 8.
To celebrate the occasion, a special “Meet and Greet” event will be held on Wednesday, August 6 at 7:00 PM, at the World’s Fair Marina Banquet Hall in New York. The event is being organized by Bioscope Films.
Dear Maa features a powerful cast including Saswata Chatterjee, Chandan Roy Sanyal, and others alongside Jaya Ahsan. The film explores themes of humanity, relationships, and the emotional complexities of motherhood, which have already sparked conversations among film enthusiasts.
The meet-and-greet event will be attended by director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, producer Indrani Mukherjee (Opus Communications), and Milon Aoun, the convenor of NABC 2026 and a trustee of the Cultural Association of Bengal. The event will be hosted by Tanvir Tarek (journalist and musician) and Shamim Al Amin (journalist, author, and filmmaker).
According to Bioscope Films, Dear Maa is their 51st production, and it marks the largest ever distribution of a Tollywood film in North America, with screenings planned in over 50 cities simultaneously. The organizers are calling on the entire Bengali diaspora to join and participate in this historic celebration of Bengali cinema on the global stage.
