Chicago Train Fire Attack: Victim’s Family to Celebrate Thanksgiving at Hospital
A Chicago woman is recovering from severe burns after a horrifying attack. Bethany MaGee, 26, was allegedly set on fire on a CTA Blue Line train.
Her family has now shared that they will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday at her hospital bedside. They launched a GoFundMe to help cover her extensive medical bills.
Suspect Faces Federal Terrorism Charge for Transit Attack
The alleged attacker, Lawrence Reed, has been charged with a federal count of committing a terrorist attack on a mass transit system. According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Reed approached MaGee from behind.
He doused her with a liquid believed to be gasoline. Reed then ignited the bottle and set the young woman ablaze.
The train pulled into a downtown stop immediately after the attack. A severely injured MaGee stumbled onto the platform and collapsed.
She was rushed to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. She suffered severe burns to her head and body.

The family’s GoFundMe campaign has drawn an overwhelming response. It raised a significant amount for her care in a very short time.
In their update, the family expressed profound gratitude for the public support. They described Bethany as a gentle spirit and a beloved family member.
