Carrie Elizabeth Romney, sister-in-law of former Senator Mitt Romney, has died by suicide, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. She was 64 years old when she passed away on October 10 in Valencia, California.

The official report, finalized on December 9, states that Carrie Romney died from blunt traumatic injuries. Law enforcement confirmed she was found near a shopping mall parking structure in the evening, prompting a response from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Carrie Romney had been married to George Scott Romney, Mitt Romney’s brother, but the couple had separated in May amid divorce proceedings citing irreconcilable differences after eight years of marriage. The Romney family expressed heartbreak over the loss and requested privacy during this difficult time.
