Bangladeshi Restaurant Worker Killed in New York Shooting, Another Injured

A 44-year-old Bangladeshi man was fatally shot at a fast-food restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, late Saturday night, while another Bangladeshi worker was injured in the incident.

The victim was identified as Mohammad Yusuf Ali Raju, a resident of Kongshnagar village in Amishapara Union of Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali, Bangladesh.

The shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. at American Best Wings & Pizza on Rockaway Avenue in Brooklyn’s Brownsville neighborhood.

According to relatives, Raju was working in the kitchen when an unidentified gunman entered the restaurant and opened fire. Raju was shot in the chest, while another Bangladeshi employee suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital. Raju was pronounced dead by doctors, while the other injured worker received treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Raju had moved to New York about three years ago in search of a better life. He is survived by his elderly father, wife and two young daughters, aged 10 and 5.

The incident has left Raju’s family and the Bangladeshi community in New York and Noakhali in deep grief. His family has sought assistance from the authorities to bring his remains back to Bangladesh.

Police are investigating the shooting and working to identify the suspect and determine the motive.
