Bangladeshi Driver Assaulted on New York Expressway

A Bangladeshi man has been assaulted while driving in New York, raising concern within the local Bangladeshi community. The incident took place at around 12:30pm on Wednesday on the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway, as the victim was heading toward LaGuardia Airport.

The victim, identified as 23-year-old Saidur Rahman, is originally from Hajiganj in Chandpur, Bangladesh, and currently lives in Jackson Heights, New York.

According to Saidur Rahman, a vehicle coming from the wrong direction rammed into his car while he was driving. When he called the police to seek assistance, the other driver became aggressive and vandalised the side mirror of his vehicle. As Saidur stepped out of his car to assess the situation, the attacker began punching him repeatedly. He sustained multiple blows to his head and neck and collapsed onto the roadway.

Saidur Rahman said the assailant fled the scene shortly after he contacted the police. Officers later arrived and transported him to hospital for treatment.

The incident has sparked strong reactions among members of the local Bangladeshi community, who are calling for a thorough investigation and the swift arrest and prosecution of the attacker.
