Armed Bikers Attack Nigerian Villages, 32 Killed
In northwestern Nigeria, armed men on motorcycles launched sudden attacks on three villages, killing at least 32 people and setting several homes on fire. Local reports and the BBC indicate that some villagers were also abducted during the raids.
The attacks occurred early Saturday in Tunga-Makari, Konkoso, and Pisa villages. In Tunga-Makari, six people were killed, while Konkoso saw the majority of the fatalities, and four women were reportedly kidnapped. In Pisa, attackers burned down a police station and killed one officer.
Authorities said the assailants arrived on 41 motorcycles, with two to three people on each. Known locally as “bandits,” these armed groups have long carried out kidnappings and raids in Nigeria, and attacks have recently surged in the western and central regions.
The government has deployed security forces to the affected areas, though officials warn that the death toll could rise as investigations continue.
