Vibrant Gathering of Bangladeshi Community at J to S Picnic

The annual picnic of the expatriate organization Journey to Success was held in Edmonton, Canada. On 16 August, the event took place in the green expanse of Roundel Park, North Edmonton, turning into a lively gathering for the Bangladeshi expatriate community. Nearly 300 men and women from over a hundred families participated.

The day-long program featured a children’s drawing competition, fun games, singing, and surprise events. Along with cultural performances, conversations, and meals, the highlight of the day was the traditional snacks jhalmuri and chanachur, accompanied by special malai tea.

The event began with a speech by the organization’s President, Abdul Haq Shamim. Other speakers included Dr. Rafat Alam, Dr. Nazma Akter, and City Council candidate Professor Dr. Farhan Mujahid, who emphasized diversity, equity, and inclusion as the organization’s core values. Two Muslim candidates for Edmonton City Council were also introduced at the event.

Veteran journalist and freedom fighter Delwar Zahid toured the children’s drawing competition, encouraging participants.

The picnic was sponsored by Duke Hasan (Realtor), Shariful Islam (Prime Physio), Din Islam (BD Mart Grocery), Ikra, and President Abdul Haq Shamim.

During the event, Dr. Nazma Akter announced upcoming programs including the annual conference, monthly Halaka, camping, family retreats, hiking, football, badminton, additional picnics, physical wellness programs, community cleanliness initiatives, fundraising, and the annual awards ceremony.

Throughout the day, expatriates enjoyed the festivities with enthusiasm. Participants also performed the Jummah prayer during a short break, led by Imam Sheikh Basam Parez.

At the conclusion, attendees expressed gratitude to the organizers for providing such a well-structured and thoughtful event that fostered a clean and constructive environment.
