Priority for Americans in U.S. Job Market

The U.S. government is emphasizing that American citizens receive priority in the country’s job market, ensuring that unauthorized immigrants do not occupy employment opportunities.

A White House statement highlighted the “America First” approach, noting that under President Donald J. Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, American workers are benefiting from stricter enforcement of immigration laws. Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Tricia MacLauglin stated that recent job statistics indicate the economy is increasingly serving American citizens, with more stable and profitable employment opportunities becoming available to them as unauthorized workers exit the labor market.

The statement also outlined programs encouraging self-deportation for unauthorized immigrants via the CBP Home App, offering incentives such as $1,000, free flights, travel assistance, and potential legal pathways to return in the future.

Since January 2025, the U.S. has collected over $130 billion in customs duties, the highest in any five-year period. Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, customs and border security has achieved a 99.5% collection rate. The administration attributes this success to ending loopholes in the ‘de minimis’ trade process, which previously allowed synthetic opioids and other illegal goods into the U.S., resulting in loss of life and economic harm.

The Trump administration maintains that prioritizing Americans in employment and enforcing immigration laws ensures national safety, economic growth, and prosperity.
